Instagram has become a powerful discovery platform, giving users access to a wide range of content—from art and design to travel, food, and journalism. For curious users, it offers more than just passive inspiration; it’s also a tool for learning.
This case study explores how Meta AI can enhance that experience by helping users go deeper into the topics they care about. By integrating conversational AI into Instagram, users could ask questions, get context, and discover related accounts or communities, turning passive browsing into active exploration.
Role
UX Designer
Meta AI can be used to target things of interest within a post to learn more about it and drive engagement. Below, the user can target the chair in the image and ask Meta AI questions about it. Based on the target, Meta AI can be used to intelligently predict the right question.
Also, by integrating in Instagram, we have the potential to connect and suggest user accounts in the AI responses, further driving engagement.
Reels have quickly become a primary way that a lot of users discover content on the platform. I personally depend on a lot of recipes I come across by food creators on Reels, but have trouble tracking recipes presented. AI could be a great tool to analyze the information of a Reel, bringing utility to it within an AI chat.
By integrating AI chat directly into Instagram, users can utilize the chat to inquire based on their personalized use of the platform. For example, a user can use Meta AI to analyze its Saved lists. In the screenshot below, a user has a list of saved restaurants in NYC found through Reels and posts. Meta AI could be a great tool to organize that list, breaking it down by cuisine.
